Hi

For those thinking of coming into Club night after the committee meeting, the meeting will be held at the Bull, instead of the Lamp Tavern. This is because it is more popular with those who regularly climb on a Wednesday night.

Directions to get to The Bull:

The address is: 1, Price Street, Birmingham, B4 6JU

CAR: If arriving by car on the A38 (the Aston Expressway), leave the fly-over section and descend to approach the Lancaster Circus traffic island (with its Fire Station doors visible on the eastern perimeter). leave the Island on the A34, dual-carriage-way; New Town Row, sign-posted to Walsall and West Bromwich. In about 200 yards (1/8th mile), after Vesey Street, take second left into Price Street and proceed (in this one-way street) up towards its junction with Loveday Street. Pay-and-Display parking tickets are only required between 0800 and 1800; except on Sundays.

See you there.

Best wishes

The Committee.

We are returning to our traditional route for our Midsummer Climbing Challenge, starting at Stanage High Neb, and finishing at Curbar and Stocking Farm, Calver.

I have booked in at the campsite for ten tents: please let me know asap if you are hoping to come, as the campsites get very busy in the summer.

We will meet on Friday 19th June either at the campsite or in the nearby pub. On Saturday 20th we will try to leave the camp at 6.45am so that slower climbers are not caught out without food at the pub! Climbs can be at Stanage (3 routes), Burbage North, Burbage South, Higgar Tor, Millstone Edge, Lawrencefield, Yarncliffe, Froggatt and Curbar.

Try to make your own pairs; ask me if you wish to take the challenge, but can't find anyone to climb with!

Hi Folks

Pantifest Party Essentials

Try to be as self sefficient as possible as the Hut's resources will be stretched to the max.

Update- FRIDAY 30th April - Please bring water with you as the tanks are low.

What to bring:
Camping equipment - tent and stove (as you probably won't get a bed in the house).
Remember the kitchen will be very busy so a brew stove may save you some time.
Food for the table on Saturday night to go with the curry we are making would be very welcome. Whatever you want to bring. Salad / french bread / pasta / puddings / sweets etc
Food for the rest of your stay as the rest of the weekend is self catering.
Drinking water.
Chairs to sit down to eat.
Hippy costume for that real festival atmosphere (if you want to dress up - but watch out for the 'pigs' man)
Please bring any flags or decorations - anything gratefully received.
Jam jars for putting candles in if you have some spare.

Thanks and see you soon.

As I needed a new climbing rope for the El Chorro trip,I first checked out the shops, then began looking on line. At northwestface.com , it seemed I could save around £30 on the purchase, so I ordered. 36 hours later my rope arrived[free postage] on a DHL van. My initial excitement quickly evaporated when I unpacked it though, as at some point it had come into contact with a heat source, and we all know what that does to climbing ropes! I immediately rang the supplier[they are a climbing wall in Warrington who also run a shop], and they were fantastic.I fully expected to have problems, but they were happy to take my word and when I explained how imminent my trip was, they immediately despatched a replacement, which arrived before 10am on Monday, and the courier collected the damaged rope. Great service, great people, good prices- check it out!

Here's your chance to enjoy a new activity ... some C&Cers are joining together on these two dates:

Sunday 3rd January .... some orienteering coaching from Andy and Penny, and then a lunch from James and Inga. Meet at Sutton Park Visitors' Centre (about 300 metres inside the park from Town Gate) at 10.30am. After some initial instruction, there will be a walk to try out those new skills!
If you wish to join us, you need to let Andy & Penny know, so that we will have enough maps, and so that there will be enough food afterwards! Bring a compass if you have one.

Sunday 7th February ... a chance to try out those new skills at a well-organised orienteering event, at Blidworth near Mansfield. There will be courses planned with beginners in mind, and you can enter on the day. £8 adults includes hire of the required electronic ecard which you use at each control-point. £4.50 children, and there will be a free 'String Course' as well, suitable for ages 3 -9. Details at www.noc-uk.org.aspx Please let Andy and Penny know if you are thinking about coming, and we will make sure that you get detailed travel instructions, and we'll arrange to meet you in the carpark and lead you through the entry procedure!
Afterwards, if the weather is OK, climbers might like to try the pleasant limestone bouldering nearby at Pleasley Vale.

Urgent – Marine and Coastal Access Bill needs your help! (1 reply)

Please find below the text of an email I received from the Open Spaces Society (I'm a member). I have responded to this and I thought C&C members might also wish to do so. There is a handy link with which to find your MP (and his/her email address) - so, standing up for what you believe in has never been so easy!

In the next fortnight, the Marine and Coastal Access Bill—which will create a walking trail right round the English coast, with spreading room beside it—should complete its passage through the House of Commons. It is vital that it receives Royal Assent before the start of the new parliamentary session on 18 November, or it could run out of parliamentary time. It has still to go through report stage and third reading in the Commons before returning to the Lords for the final stages. Even at this late stage, there could be delays if MPs oppose or question elements of the Bill. That’s where you come in.

Please could you write, or send an email, to your MP, within the next ten days, to explain to him or her why it is necessary for this Bill to be passed without delay. You might like to include some of the following points:

Once implemented, the Marine and Coastal Access Act will enable people to walk right round the coast of England. (At present there is no general right to walk on beaches and the foreshore, and the access which exists is, in many places, patchy or of poor quality. Natural England’s research shows that as much as 34 per cent, or 921 miles of the 2,748-mile coastline has no satisfactory, legally secure path.)

Walkers generate income for the local economy. Coastal towns and villages, many of which suffer from deprivation, will benefit from the new coastal access.

Walking is good for people’s health and well-being, and the provision of secure coastal access will encourage more people to walk.

There will be scope for additional, much-needed, access for riders and cyclists where appropriate.

This is a popular measure. An ICM poll revealed that 94 per cent of those questioned said that they wanted a legal right of access to the coast.

You can find out who your MP is at http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/

If you need any further information please contact Kate Ashbrook at hq@oss.org.uk or phone 01491 573535.

Please be sure to contact your MP within the next ten days.

Hi All,

The function will be held in the Panorama Room on the first floor. There is a bar in the Panorama Room which will be available for the party. The buffet will be served at 7pm to allow us time to eat before the fireworks start as people may wish to disperse outside. The Panorama Room is next to the private garden which we can use. It will be an informal buffet with seating around tables of various sizes.
As previously mentioned parking will be a problem both at the hotel and in Matlock Bath in general. The hotel’s car park will only be available to those guests who have booked accommodation with the hotel. All other guests will have to either use the public car park down the road, which fills up quite early on fireworks nights or use the park and ride car parks from Matlock or Cromford. On some years the police have actually closed the road to the hotel.

I will be there from about 5pm, hoping to have a drink with you before the celebrations start.
